Prepare in Advance for E-Learning Days Due to Winter Weather

Posted Date: 11/14/24 (12:35 PM)

Before winter weather arrives, make a plan for your family to accommodate e-learning.

When weather conditions make travel hazardous, CUSD 10 could declare an E-Learning Day, meaning students will learn remotely from home based on expectations determined by their schools/teachers.

Now is the time to prepare.

The district's E-Learning Plan is posted on our website.  USE THIS LINK TO REVIEW THE E-LEARNING PLAN.  Specific e-learning details for your child will be shared by their teacher(s).

If an e-learning day is declared, you will receive an alert from the school district via text, email, phone, and ParentSquare app notification (if applicable). Information will also be posted on the district website and social media.

  • Urgent notifications, like an e-learning day,  override your communication preferences.  Expect to receive the notice in multiple ways.
  • Make sure you have the district phone number (618 )346-6350 in your phone contacts so you know the origin of the phone notification.
  • Be sure your contact information is up-to-date in Skyward Family Access.
  • Watch for additional instructions/information from your child's school/teacher(s).
Check & Ensure Internet Connectivity
YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION TO COMPLETE THEIR E-LEARNING ASSIGNMENTS.  To prepare for the possibility of an e-learning day, schools and teachers have been conducting connectivity checks.  During these checks, Chromebooks go home with students to make sure they are able to connect to Wi-Fi.

If you child is unable to connect to the internet at home, please notify their teacher or building principal as soon as possible.   See the information posted below about free hotspots available from T-Mobile.

FREE Hotspots Available to Families
CUSD 10 students are eligible to receive a free hotspot through T-Mobile* @ 200gb per year for 5 years with no re-certification needed.   Our students automatically qualify because of our district's Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) designation - which is the same classification that provides free meals for every student in the district.

USE THIS LINK FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO APPLY DIRECTLY FROM THE T-MOBILE WEBSITE

The only verification that needs to be submitted is found on your child's most recent report card which can be found in Skyward under the "PORTFOLIO" tab. Step-by-step instructions are attached.

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED THROUGH T-MOBILE, NOT THE SCHOOL DISTIRCT. We cannot troubleshoot hotspots. Parents MUST contact T-Mobile customer service for technical issues and troubleshooting.

Utilize ParentSquare Communication Tools
Our district uses the ParentSquare communication platform. Every parent/guardian automatically has an account.  We encourage everyone to activate their account and download the free app to take full advantage of the many communication tools ParentSquare offers.  Instructions in English AND Instructions in Spanish

A useful feature on the app is the ability to direct message your child's teacher(s).  Messages are auto-translated. ParentSquare also archives information shared by the school and teacher, so you have information at your fingertips 24/7. These capabilities could be useful on e-learning days.

Remember: If weather conditions result in loss of power or other issues in the community that prohibit remote learning, the district may cancel school. Canceled days MUST be made up at the end of the year.  E-learning days are considered attendance days, so they do not add additional days to the school calendar.
